DEFINITIONS

AGENCY:  The nonprofit that is hosting a service opportunity. 

NEED:  is the service opportunity.  This can be in-person or virtual.

Can I browse all service opportunities in one place?

Yes! After creating an account, click on “Calendar” in the navigation bar at the top of the page. You will be redirected to our project calendar where you can view all service opportunities by day and month.

How do I sign up for a volunteer event? 

Once you find the need you’d like participate in, click on the event to see all the details. In the top, right corner of the need page click “Respond” to register yourself and receive further information. If you are registering a group of people, click “Respond as Team.” From here, you can either register a pre-existing team that you have created, or create a new team by entering the full name and email of every participant.

Can I search for volunteer opportunities in a specific theme?

Also yes! Navigate to “Needs” on the left-hand side of the page. Open the dropdown menu in the top, right-hand on the screen that says “Select a Filter.” From there, select “Interest” and choose your desired impact area from the second dropdown menu. You can also perform more specific searches by using the “Search Phrase” box on the top right-hand side of the page.

I signed up for service project but haven't heard back yet from the Agency. What do I do?

Contact the nonprofit agency that is hosting the service event. 

How do I get my hours approved?

After you have submitted your hours, they will appear on your volunteer resume. Once you have done this, your hours should be approved by the agency that posted the need you responded to. If your hours were not approved, please contact the host organization directly. If you do receive a response within 48 hours, contact community@handsonneworleans.org for assistance.

If I need to prove my volunteer work/hours, can I get a certification?

If you need a certification to prove your volunteer work, email community@handsonneworleans.org for help. Make sure to include your name, return email address, what need (location) you responded to, and how many hours you work. A certification acknowledging your volunteer service will be sent you within 2-4 business days. 

My account says ‘inactive’, how can I regain access?

Email community@handsonneworleans.org to have your account reactivated.
