Who We Are

Friends of Tremé Culture is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization created in 2022 to continue and expand the cultural fundraising and granting program originally developed by the Historic Faubourg Tremé Association (HFTA). The Tremé Fall Festival was founded by HFTA to raise funds for its mission of fighting blight and preserving the neighborhood’s cultural heritage. As the grantmaking program grew, it was decided that this work should continue under Friends of Tremé Culture, which now focuses solely on cultural fundraising and providing micro-grants that support Tremé’s institutions, culture bearers, and preservation efforts. Our vision is a thriving Tremé where its history, culture, and community institutions are preserved and celebrated for generations to come.

What We Do

Friends of Tremé Culture is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and uplifting Tremé’s cultural heritage. We accomplish this by producing cultural events and fundraisers, including our signature Tremé Fall Festival and our Patron Party gala, to generate funds for micro-grants that support local cultural institutions, organizations, and culture bearers. Now celebrating our 10th year, we have raised over $113,000 benefiting more than 49 groups, including the African American Museum, Backstreet Cultural Museum, Le Petit Jazz Museum, Black Men of Labor, and the 6th Ward Steppers, among others. Through these programs, we help sustain Tremé’s unique traditions and strengthen the community.
