Who We Are

The BIA is a 501c3 non-profit neighborhood organization, founded in 1930. The BIA serves people who live, work, worship and play in Broadmoor through a coordinated network of anchor institutions, faith-based partners, businesses and community partners. BIA drives individual and community growth through innovative programs, resources, space, services, and advocacy.

What We Do

The Broadmoor Improvement Association (BIA) works to elevate the entire community of Broadmoor through a variety of institutions. The Education Corridor is at the heart of this plan, and was brought about through the redevelopment plan - a plan written by the BIA and Broadmoor residents. Broadmoor realized that in order to repopulate the community, generate opportunity, and create equity for its residents, education and recreation would need to be at the center. The Corridor addresses community needs such as poverty, blight, low levels of education and unemployment by offering various programs at the four anchor institutions. Rather than relying on a single institution to be a catchall solution for social change, the Education Corridor model spreads responsibility across various institutions. Its services are designed to impact people of all ages. Programs generate opportunity, increase overall racial and economic equity and improve the quality of life of individuals in the community. The synthesis between community spaces provides individuals with a supportive network, sense of belonging and increased self-worth. Four educational anchors are located within an eight-block area and their programs are designed to provide a holistic set of resources for education, recreation, culture, health and individual development over an entire lifetime. More than 250 people participate in the affordable program opportunities each day in the community including youth ballet classes, basketball, after-school tutoring, music lessons and cooking classes. Adults and seniors take advantage of fitness and nutrition classes, Spanish conversation circles, citizenship tutoring, counseling and parenting workshops.
