The New Orleans Healing Center (NOHC) is seeking enthusiastic, reliable, and creative volunteers to assist with marketing and promotion for our annual Fèt Gede (Haitian Day of the Dead) event on November 1. Fèt Gede is a vibrant community celebration honoring Haitian heritage, remembering ancestors, and celebrating life and collective healing. Volunteers will help raise awareness of the event through social media, flyer distribution, and community outreach. Those interested will also have the opportunity to participate in event planning and attend the celebration on the day of the event.

Key Responsibilities:

Create and schedule social media posts to promote Fèt Gede across platforms

Help design, print, and distribute flyers in the community

Support outreach to local organizations, artists, and vendors to share event information

Assist with optional pre-event planning meetings and provide input on logistics, décor, and programming

Attend Fèt Gede on November 1 to support activities, engage with attendees, and help where needed

Qualifications:

Interest in marketing, social media, community engagement, or event planning

Dependable, creative, and comfortable working independently or as part of a team

Good communication and interpersonal skills

Familiarity with social media platforms and basic graphic design skills a plus

Interest in Haitian culture and community celebrations

Time Commitment & Duration:

Volunteer period: October 1–31, 2025

Expected commitment: 1–2 hours per week, with flexibility to attend optional planning meetings and the event on November 1

The New Orleans Healing Center (NOHC) is seeking enthusiastic, reliable, and creative interns or volunteers to assist in the planning and execution of our annual Fèt Gede (Haitian Day of the Dead) event on November 1. Fèt Gede is a vibrant community celebration honoring Haitian heritage, remembering ancestors, and celebrating life and collective healing. Volunteers will support a Day of Support with decorations, cultural food and art, set up, clean up, and a special bar featuring a Haitian spirit (e.g., Rhum Barbancourt or Clairin) for authentic cultural flair.

Key Responsibilities:

Attend brief event planning meetings and help coordinate logistics, design, schedule, and volunteer support

Help design, purchase/source, and install décor reflective of Haitian cultural traditions for Fèt Gede

Participate in set up before the event (chairs, tables, décor, lighting, signage)

Operate bar area during the event: serving Haitian spirit, coordinating with bartenders, and ensuring compliance with relevant rules/permits

Oversee clean up after the event: breaking down décor, cleaning, restoring the site

Assist with Day of Support activities, such as workshops, remembrance rituals, or community engagement

Support communication and outreach efforts: social media, flyers, volunteer coordination

Qualifications:

Interest in Haitian culture, community organizing, or event planning

Dependability and ability to work flexible hours as needed

Good interpersonal and teamwork skills

Able to lift or move objects for set up and clean up

Experience in event coordination, bartending, or hospitality is a plus but not required

For bar operation: must meet legal age to serve alcohol and feel comfortable in a bar setting

Time Commitment & Duration:

1 hour per week leading up to the event, plus participation on the event day (November 1)
