Responsibilities (The "What")

This is an easy, focused, and high-impact role suitable for someone comfortable with simple, fast-paced service:

·       Serving single shots of Barbancourt rum to patrons making a donation. No complex mixing or cocktail preparation required!

·       Keeping a steady supply of fresh-sliced limes available.

·       Handling cash donations and ensuring responsible service (checking IDs, refusing service as necessary).

·       Keeping the bar service area clean and organized.

Requirements (Essential)

·       Age Requirement: Must be 21 or older.

·       Training: Must be willing to follow brief instructions on responsible service (e.g., proper ID checking).

·       Certification: Current Responsible Vendor/Server certification (or willingness to obtain one) is a major asset, but no prior experience is necessary.

·       Video Capture: Capture short video clips (15–30 seconds) of key performances and general atmosphere for social media use.

·       Interviews/Statements: Gather short, enthusiastic statements (1–2 sentences) from vendors, artists, and participants about what the event means to them.

·       Deliverables: Provide a minimum of 50 edited, high-resolution photographs and raw video footage to the organization within one week of the event.

·       Attire/Conduct: Maintain professional decorum while moving throughout the event space.

Requirements (Enthusiasm & Basic Tech)

·       Experience: Previous experience is helpful, but not required. We are looking for someone with an eye for a good shot!

·       Equipment: Must own and operate a smartphone with a modern, high-quality camera capable of capturing decent photos and video in low-light conditions.

Purpose: Community Gardens Volunteers support the horticulture team to care for our outdoor garden space at  The Broadmoor Food Forest. 

Location: Broadmoor Food Forest (3730 Toledano St, New Orleans, LA, 70125)

Primary Responsibilities:

Seasonal planting

Pruning, Mulching, and weeding

Watering

General grounds maintenance

Distributing & removing beneficial biologicals (insects, mites, etc)

Qualifications:

Interest in care and maintenance of living collections

Cooperative nature, including the ability to accept instruction and correction

Ability to bend and lift up to 25 pounds

Comfort working outdoors

Experience with plant care is a plus, but not a requirement

Training Provided:

Introduction to role and responsibilities in person by Community Director

Intermittent feedback with Community Director

Time Commitment:

At least one shift per month

Recurring weekly schedule is preferred, but we welcome intermittent volunteering as well.

Musicians On Call (MOC) is a nonprofit organization that brings live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients, families and caregivers in healthcare environments. MOC needs YOU to help us spread the healing power of music to those who need it most!

Volunteer Guides (non-musicians) escort Volunteer Musicians room to room as they play music for patients, families and caregivers in healthcare environments. The Volunteer Guide acts as the "eyes and ears" during the MOC Bedside shift and is the liaison between the hospital, patient, and the Volunteer Musician. Volunteer Guides are critical to the success of MOC Bedside and get to experience the healing power of music firsthand without having to be a musician themselves!

- We are seeking instructors fluent in Italian to teach language classes that can engage our community members in learning this beautiful language.

- We are also looking for certified instructors experienced in leading meditation and yoga sessions designed specifically for seniors, focusing on promoting relaxation, flexibility, and wellness.

We have a community garden and need a few permanent volunteers to assist with it. We need general maintenance such as, weeding, planting, harvesting, cleaning, etc. Gardening is rewarding hard work! You will definitely reap what you sow.  We would love to have you come out and be apart of NAMISELA!

Mentorship through Son of a Saint has a profound impact on fatherless boys by providing them with consistent guidance, emotional support, and positive role models. The organization helps these young men navigate life's challenges and develop critical life skills. Son of a Saint provided a space for the boys to host their very own podcast that I participated on a weekly basis and through this, I was able to witness the kids curate and host their own podcast ranging from sports topics to "What If" scenarios, which allowed the boys to build self-esteem, confidence, build on communication skills, express creativity and social skills. Hostelling International: New Orleans is a nonprofit founded on the principles of sustainability, education, and responsible tourism. We offer outings for our guests to explore places they might not have heard of which are historically significant and which benefit minorites, women, and queer folks.

We need a guide who can provide tours of Treme, including visits to the Backstreet Cultural Museum and the Petit Jazz Museum. This neighborhood is a living monument, and it is important that visitors have the option to spend money and time learning about it. 

We are open to accommodating our volunteers' passions and interests, and we are flexible with dates and times.

 After-School is a literacy-rich program in which students receive 1-on-1 support with homework, reading, and writing at the 826 New Orleans Writing Center. AS is offered Monday through Thursday with students coming two days a week (Monday & Wednesday for 4th-6th graders and Tuesday & Thursday for 1st-3rd graders) from 3:30 to 6:00 pm.

Common Ground Relief has hosted food and supply distributions at 1804 Deslonde Street since November 2020.

Our food security initiative was established in response to COVID-exacerbated food insecurity in the Lower Ninth Ward. We served families throughout Southeast Louisiana in the wake of Hurricane Ida.

Volunteer tasks may include unloading food donations and restocking shelves, greeting patrons, loading groceries into vehicles, and managing food stock. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes suitable for the outdoor weather. Bring a mask, water, and lunch.

In early November, the Museum will open the highly anticipated Liberation Pavilion, its final permanent exhibit hall.  Liberation will explore the end of World War II, the Holocaust, the postwar years, and how the war continues to impact our lives today.  The three-story building will house two floors of exhibit space, as well as a third-floor theater offering audiences a brand-new cinematic experience.  We will therefore be expanding our volunteer pool significantly over the next few months in anticipation of this exciting new addition to our museum campus.

lowernine.org operates one Home Rebuild Program with two components - full residential construction and major structural repair projects. We use unskilled volunteers under skilled supervision in the majority of tasks associated with rebuilding homes, bringing the cost to rebuild down to approximately 20-30% of open market rate. Thus, residents who were unable to acquire sufficient support to completely fund their recoveries might still be given the opportunity to return to their homes.

We need your help to rebuild the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans! We are always looking for individuals to join our volunteer construction crew and work on residential construction projects in the Lower Ninth Ward under skilled supervision. We welcome all willing and able individuals regardless of skill level throughout the year. We provide the necessary project training, tools, and safety equipment. You must have an up-to-date tetanus shot and active health insurance, and should consult with your physician if you have asthma or any known mold or dust allergies. The work we do is physically demanding.

Individuals will join a small crew, which works from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Tuesday - Saturday on our open construction projects in the Lower Ninth Ward. We expect all volunteers staying in our volunteer house to commit to this schedule full-time. The vast majority of the time, we work on residential building projects for individual pre-Katrina residents of our neighborhood, but we occasionally take on lot clearing, data collection, or collaboration with other nonprofits in the area. Please be sure to let us know if you have any specific rebuild-related skills or previous experience. We will do all we can to make the most of your skills, but as our project schedules are determined by many variables, we can't make guarantees. Our most common volunteer projects are framing, insulating, sheetrocking, tiling, painting and siding. We cannot tell you ahead of time what you will be doing, but all our projects are guaranteed to contribute in some way to the rebuild efforts of our neighborhood.

lowernine.org is looking for volunteers to help us with an ongoing number of projects. We are in need of volunteers to assist with administrative work in our office including social media strategy and posting, data entry, and donor management. Hours are flexible, with shifts available between 8am and 4:30pm, Tuesday-Saturday. 

We are preferably looking for volunteers familiar with:

- Social Media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter

- Graphic Design and/or HTML experience is a bonus, but not required 

This internship/volunteering opportunity provides excellent non-profit and professional experience. 

We are looking for volunteer ESL teachers in person and online for our upcoming semester in January. No teaching experience is necessary and you do not need to speak another language to teach. We provide materials and trainings for all teachers.

Resurrection Gardens is looking for volunteers to help with weekly garden maintenance. Current needs are clean-up post Ida, soil amendment, and raised bed maintenance / building. The garden has access to a recently demolished gymnasium and needs help relocating bricks and cinder blocks to the garden.

Volunteer Guidelines

We welcome students in need of community service hours, adjudicated community service volunteers and members of the community simply looking to get involved. Volunteers with the following charges (past or present) are not eligible to complete their hours at The Green Project: theft of any kind, sexual assault or misconduct of any kind, or violent crime of any kind.

Please do not come if you are feeling ill or have a fever, or if you have been around someone who is ill. 

Special Services volunteers provides services in their area of expertise.  Attorneys, Hair Stylists, Barbers, Accountants, Licensed Professional Counselors/Social Workers, Massage Therapist, etc.  Special Services volunteers hold a specialized license or certification and follow established rules set out by the state.

Music therapy is more than a music activity in a senior living community.  It assesses the strengths and needs of the patient and designs a plan of treatment that includes creating, singing, moving to, and/or listening to live, patient-preferred music within individual, group and/or family sessions.  Music Companion volunteers assist Lakeside Hospice's Music Therapist with various tasks that aid in treatment for the patient.

Lakeside Hospice's Bereavement Program follows the bereaved families for thirteen months after the patient's death.  Bereavement Outreach volunteers assist the Bereavement Coordinator and/or Chaplin with phone calls, mailings, and the planning of the annual Memorial service.

Patient and Family Support Volunteers offer comfort and friendship to patients and their families.  They provide patients with support and companionship throughout their care under Lakeside Hospice.  Patient and Family Support volunteers can make home visits or telephone calls to the patients to offer companionship.  Patient and Family Support volunteers can also provide brief periods of respite for the patient's caregiver.

St. Catherines is looking for dedicated volunteers to assist us with special services and other types of random volunteer opportunities that may arise.  These may look like providing clerical and administrative support to staff, sending birthday or thank you cards out, facilitating arts and crafts and participating in the many activities we have at the nursing home.  

Other types of volunteer opportunities in this related area include needing a seamstress to assist with creating memory bears for family of hospice patients, or leading projects on holidays and volunteer days!

St. Catherines Hospice is looking for caring and empathetic volunteers to assist with the bereavement process such as mailing sympathy cards and bereavement notes.   Other volunteer opportunities for this may include making phone calls to family and friends during the grief process and other errands.

The Acorn Farm is looking for volunteers who can help us with farming!  That can include tasks such as planting seeds, checking on and watering plants, pulling weeds, harvesting and mowing grass.  Additionally our Master Gardener lives near by and is able to guide and provide gloves/tools for the volunteers.

Volunteers are able to choose either 1 hour or 2 hour shifts to make sure we are staying out of the heat for too long.  Please do bring water for you to stay hydrated!  

Veterans Housing is looking for volunteers to assist with legal assistance.  Lawyers needed to help out for about 2-3 hours total per week.

Project Ishmael is looking for Spanish speaking volunteers to help answer and return phone calls to connect families in New Orleans with legal and health resources. We are an immigration legal clinic for children in New Orleans and many of our calls need to be answered in Spanish. If you have 2-4 hours per week (Mon-Fri) to volunteer at our office we would love your help!
