Needs From: HandsOn New Orleans

Volunteer: SKILLED VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

HandsOn New Orleans is a small but mighty team of three full-time staff who specialize in turning community needs into meaningful volunteer service. We are looking for skilled virtual volunteers in IT and Marketing to help us strengthen the systems behind our impact.

Short virtual projects available

IT (Office 365 and OneDrive/SharePoint Online): Take a look “under the hood” of our current setup, recommend a simple structure, and help us clean up and configure our files and permissions. Estimated 1–3 hours, depending on your approach.

Marketing & Communications (PR, graphic design, social media): Support a few focused projects that will help us reach a new generation of volunteers and partners. Estimated 3–5 hours per project.

Refresh the look, feel, and tone of our website so it resonates with younger and more diverse volunteers and supporters. Update our external slide decks (corporate partners, project site partners) so they clearly tell our story and impact. Create simple, reusable Canva templates for each of our three mission programs to keep our materials consistent and on brand. Share social media and influencer best practices, or help us test a small content campaign, so we can better highlight local service opportunities and impact.

Who we’re hoping to connect with

IT professionals experienced with Microsoft 365 admin, OneDrive/SharePoint, and basic security/permissions Communications, PR, or marketing professionals, graphic designers, and social media strategists who enjoy short, clearly scoped projects.

If you are interested in a quick, well-defined virtual project that builds the capacity of a grassroots volunteer hub in New Orleans, we would love to hear from you!

Volunteer: Help local girls grow up confident - Coach with Girls on the Run!

Coaching with Girls on the Run is one of those experiences that fills your cup and makes a real impact. Our coaches help bring to life a future where no girl grows up doubting her self-worth, and you don’t have to be a runner to make that happen. You just need a big heart and a passion for empowering 8–12-year-old girls.

GOTR coaches commit to two practices a week (75–90 minutes each) from the week of March 9th through early May. We take care of the rest: you’ll receive full training in February, a complete curriculum, and all the supplies you need to lead fun, meaningful lessons that help girls build confidence, friendships, and healthy habits.

The process is simple: complete a coach application, let us know your location and availability, and we’ll match you with a team that fits. Show up as the role model you already are, and we’ll equip you with everything else.

Here’s what one of our incredible coaches has to say:

“My experience coaching at the Willow School was so fulfilling. Getting to know the girls on my team and coaching them physically as well as socially gave me a sense of accomplishment. Having the opportunity to share my experiences and learn with the younger generation of girls makes little me so proud of who I am today!”
Coach Claire, student at Loyola University

Volunteer: Be A Mentor To Our Boys & Young Men

Mentorship through Son of a Saint has a profound impact on fatherless boys by providing them with consistent guidance, emotional support, and positive role models. The organization helps these young men navigate life's challenges and develop critical life skills. Son of a Saint provided a space for the boys to host their very own podcast that I participated on a weekly basis and through this, I was able to witness the kids curate and host their own podcast ranging from sports topics to "What If" scenarios, which allowed the boys to build self-esteem, confidence, build on communication skills, express creativity and social skills. Like the saying goes, "If you love New Orleans, invest in its future."  Jonathan Turner, Mentor Since 2018

Volunteer: The National World War II Museum Seeks New Volunteers!

The prestigious National WWII Museum is recruiting volunteers! Recognized globally and consistently ranked as the #1 Visitor Attraction in New Orleans by TripAdvisor, the Museum is soon to expand its campus.

In early November, the Museum will open the highly anticipated Liberation Pavilion, its final permanent exhibit hall.  Liberation will explore the end of World War II, the Holocaust, the postwar years, and how the war continues to impact our lives today.  The three-story building will house two floors of exhibit space, as well as a third-floor theater offering audiences a brand-new cinematic experience.  We will therefore be expanding our volunteer pool significantly over the next few months in anticipation of this exciting new addition to our museum campus.

Experienced volunteer or novice, if you have a connection to or simply an interest in “the war that changed the world” and are able to commit to at least one 4½ -hour shift per week, morning or evening, for a minimum of 9 months, please complete a Volunteer Application located at this link on our website:  www.nationalww2museum.org/about-us/our-team/volunteer/volunteer-opportunities.

Agency: The National World War II Museum

Volunteer: Lower Ninth Ward Rebuild Program

lowernine.org operates one Home Rebuild Program with two components - full residential construction and major structural repair projects. We use unskilled volunteers under skilled supervision in the majority of tasks associated with rebuilding homes, bringing the cost to rebuild down to approximately 20-30% of open market rate. Thus, residents who were unable to acquire sufficient support to completely fund their recoveries might still be given the opportunity to return to their homes.

We need your help to rebuild the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans! We are always looking for individuals to join our volunteer construction crew and work on residential construction projects in the Lower Ninth Ward under skilled supervision. We welcome all willing and able individuals regardless of skill level throughout the year. We provide the necessary project training, tools, and safety equipment. You must have an up-to-date tetanus shot and active health insurance, and should consult with your physician if you have asthma or any known mold or dust allergies. The work we do is physically demanding.

Individuals will join a small crew, which works from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Tuesday - Saturday on our open construction projects in the Lower Ninth Ward. We expect all volunteers staying in our volunteer house to commit to this schedule full-time. The vast majority of the time, we work on residential building projects for individual pre-Katrina residents of our neighborhood, but we occasionally take on lot clearing, data collection, or collaboration with other nonprofits in the area. Please be sure to let us know if you have any specific rebuild-related skills or previous experience. We will do all we can to make the most of your skills, but as our project schedules are determined by many variables, we can't make guarantees. Our most common volunteer projects are framing, insulating, sheetrocking, tiling, painting and siding. We cannot tell you ahead of time what you will be doing, but all our projects are guaranteed to contribute in some way to the rebuild efforts of our neighborhood.
