Volunteer: 4th Saturday Food Forest Volunteer

4TH Saturday, except specified months

April 26June 28July 26August 23September 27October 18*November 15*

We welcome students in need of community service hours, adjudicated community service volunteers and members of the community simply looking to get involved. Volunteers with the following charges (past or present) are not eligible to complete their hours at The Broadmoor Improvement Association: theft of any kind, sexual assault or misconduct of any kind, or violent crime of any kind.


Please do not come if you are feeling ill or have a fever, or if you have been around someone who is ill. 


Team Assignment: Broadmoor Food Forest


Reports to: Co Executive Director / Director of Programs

Purpose: Community Gardens Volunteers support the horticulture team to care for our outdoor garden space at  The Broadmoor Food Forest. 

Location: Broadmoor Food Forest (3730 Toledano St, New Orleans, LA, 70125)

Primary Responsibilities:

Seasonal planting

Pruning, Mulching, and weeding

Watering

General grounds maintenance

Distributing & removing beneficial biologicals (insects, mites, etc)



Qualifications:


Interest in care and maintenance of living collections

Cooperative nature, including the ability to accept instruction and correction

Ability to bend and lift up to 25 pounds

Comfort working outdoors

Experience with plant care is a plus, but not a requirement



Training Provided:


Introduction to role and responsibilities in person by Community Director

Intermittent feedback with Community Director




Time Commitment:

At least one shift per month

Recurring weekly schedule is preferred, but we welcome intermittent volunteering as well.

Gardeners are needed to support Mrs. Jennette Bell at the long lasting New Orleans institution, Garden on Mars.  Assist Le Chat Noir Theatrics in the beautification of our city's community gardens. Garden with renown Le Chat Noir Theatrics Horticulture specialists and learn tips and tricks on how to start your own fully sustainable garden in your home/backyard, all while supporting the needs of your community.
