Who We Are

lowernine.org is a non-profit organization dedicated to the long-term recovery of New Orleans’ historic lower ninth ward from Hurricane Katrina and the levee breaches of 2005. After the storm, 100% of the homes in the Lower Ninth Ward were deemed uninhabitable, and still families are waiting to return to their neighborhood. As an organization we provide volunteer labor, under the supervision of skilled crew leaders to help legacy (pre-Katrina) residents to return home.  Since the opening of lowernine.org, we have completed 91 full rebuilds and completed over 300 structural repair projects in the neighborhood. During the onset of COVID-19, we began a food security program, distributing over 500lbs of food weekly in the Lower Ninth Ward. Today, in addition to our residential construction program, we provide a weekly food pantry service to the community.

What We Do

Rebuild and repair homes in the Lower Ninth Ward for legacy (pre-Katrina) residents. Provide food security to Orleans Parish residents, particularly those in the Lower Ninth Ward.
