Life before Hurricane Ida..... We are a very close knit family. We often invited family over at least once a month for some family fun and potluck style Sunday dinner. At most times, my grandma and mom would cook what looked like Thanksgiving dinner on every weekend, so our house was the place to stop by coming from church. We DO NOT know how to cook small, there was always enough for anyone who stopped by. Especially in the Winter, grandma would give me the shopping list, to go to the store to grab the ingredients for some good ole "homemade egg nog." One of my favorite memories happens in December. Our parish presents an annual tradition called the "Festival of Bon Fires." We live very close to where it all takes place. People within the community build bonfires out of wood. On Christmas eve, everyone would light and burn their wood creation to help Santa Claus find his way to children's homes. Our family and friends would stop by to hang out and enjoy some seafood gumbo and watch as the smoke filled the air. One year it snowed, and we all played outside, making snow angels. Our home isn't a place, it's a feeling! My family and I were displaced after Hurricane Ida. We were split up on some days, because not everyone had room to house all of us. Without complaining, although some days were worse than others, we were very grateful to have life. It is extremely important to get repairs done to our home because we considered this house, a home. Our FAMILY HOME. We have shared so many cherished memories in this home. This is my children's childhood home. From childbirth to high school and college graduations, we often celebrated milestones and created everlasting memories in this very house. No words can express or describe how excited we are to get our home back to continue creating long lasting and loving memories. This quote describes our home and the love we share between each other. A house is made of walls and beams. A home, OUR HOME is made of love and dreams. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who played a part in allowing us to continue our family traditions.
