Every Saturday morning you can help CGR care for 5,000+ native trees, shrubs, and grasses that are raised in the Native Plant Nursery before being planted in the wetlands surrounding New Orleans!
Annually, CGR plants and average of 5,000 trees and 30,000 plugs of marsh grass, as well as thousands of Louisiana Irises, shrubs, and understory pollinators in the wetlands surrounding New Orleans and across Southeast Louisiana. We do this to protect our communities from heavy industry and climate change related threats to our ecosystem, so residents of Southeast Louisiana can continue to survive and thrive here in perpetuity.
The nursery is a place for learning, sharing, and relaxing for volunteers, visitors, and neighbors in the Lower 9th Ward, where our headquarters are based. We aren't just caring for plants, we are also improving the space constantly for the enjoyment of all.
Common activities include weeding, potting, mulching, composting, and more! Come prepared with close-toed shoes, comfortable outdoor clothing, a reusable water bottle, and sun protection.
A water fountain is available on-site, and CGR provides gloves, bug spray, sun screen, and first aid for volunteers. Bathrooms are located 3 blocks away at the CGR Office, 1800 Deslonde St
