This position is for volunteers interested in performing catch basin cleaning in the neighborhood and general gardening practices outdoors who are enthusiastic about plants, communicate well with BIA staff and the public, and don’t mind repetitive tasks like weeding (sometimes for extended periods of time).
As of yet, Broadmoor Community Gardens does not have paths equipped for wheelchairs, the site is mostly soil and grass.
Volunteers should be willing and able to:
- Clean Catch Basins
- Perform general gardening chores including pruning, planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting
- Work in hot and cold weather
- Stoop and bend
- Identify plants or learn plant identification skills
- Lift 20+ lbs. (not necessary but a plus)
Volunteers are encouraged to:
- Wear closed toe shoes
- pants and long skirts and long sleeves
- Bring a water Bottle
The BIA will provide:
- Gardening Tools
- Restroom
- Water
NOTE: All those who volunteer agree to our Basic Volunteer Waiver, Medical and Photo Release by default.
We welcome students in need of community service hours, adjudicated community service volunteers and members of the community simply looking to get involved. Volunteers with the following charges (past or present) are not eligible to complete their hours at The Broadmoor Improvement Association: theft of any kind, sexual assault or misconduct of any kind, or violent crime of any kind.
